Gavin Leslie

My name is Gavin Leslie. Currently I am a third-year mechanical engineering student at York University. The reason I chose mechanical engineering is due to an interest in automotive technology as I am hoping to one day have a career in this field. Due to my father’s love of cars, and my grandfather’s history as a motorcycle racer, I have grown very accustom to the automotive field and I am hoping to one day to find a job position in it. I also really enjoy working with others on projects which is why I wanted to become an engineer. Working in teams to complete big projects has lead to some of the most fulfilling moments of my life so far and I am hoping to have more with a profession in engineering.

The ideals that give me inspiration for the engineering profession are safety and integrity. To be more specific, I want that whenever I finish a drawing or sign off on a design, as an engineer, the people that intend to use this design can be assured that it is safe. I intend to use all the proper standards and practices I am taught to meet these goals, whether it be from school, work, etc. These ideals inspire me to put the most I can into my designs and work as an engineer as I understand from my engineering education, what could happen if I do not. However, these ideals are should not only inspire me, but all others who are apart of the engineering profession.
